Has it been another five days already? *sigh* I want the 48 hours or more day! The current time I have in a day just isn’t enough to get everything done. I haven’t killed anything since Friday when I played a very short round of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 in order to make a few screenshots. Only a few Mahjongg-stones vanished under my wrath but they don’t fall under the three categories: Humans, Machines, Monsters.
Nothing more than work, work and work. I spend my entire weekend contributing to MobyGames. On the plus side: I only need 1981 points (as of 18.07.2007 15:30) more to breach the 10.000. Piece of cake! The whole Monday and Tuesday, or what is left of my day after work anyway, were mostly spend getting my new router to work – that reminds me, that I have to update my system-overview -. But since yesterday evening I finally have a working network including WLAN-access. The biggest problem was Windows Vista because it kept claiming, that there were two networks working and because of that, besides pinging Google or accessing the router, nothing worked. The solution was in the end to disable the NIC for a moment and after reactivating it, the whole thing finally worked – automatically. I could have jumped out of the window at that moment but I was too lazy to get up. The notebook with XP on it, worked the whole time without any real issue once I had set the right WLAN-channel. The range of the network is okay but not enough to include Talliah in it. It only goes roughly to the beginning of their house. We should build a repeater in-between. But that is a small detail – who wants to have Talliah in his network anyway? My laptop works and that is the most important thing. Everything else is just a bonus. Oh and for all those „driving around and searching for spots with open WLAN“: Yes, you will see the network but getting in will still take some time. Of course a seasoned hacker will get in eventually but it is not as open as those unknowledgeable open networks of Speedport Whatever-owners. After all, as I already mentioned several times, I’m a Chaosradio-listener and one of the last topics was „WEP is dead“ :). But enough about networks – but WLAN is really a breeze if it works. I fear more the whole issues that come with a router in general (opening up ports to get games to work and so on).
Also I still have many topics left and am working on a few articles, a few reviews and of course a few short-stories (I started a new one again instead of finally finishing an old one), I feel exhausted at the moment. Part of the reason is the damn weather. It’s impossible to do anything when you feel like its 70°C in the sun. But that is of course also just a lame excuse for my laziness. Someone should come by and kick my ass. It seems like good words aren’t enough at the moment, even so nearly everything is prepared and only needs me to sit down for an hour or two and write it up, because there is so much other stuff to do – and I would of course like to play a game for a few hours again…
But I’m whining again. I should really stop doing that. Now that I have internet access everywhere, I will not try but instead do some work. Sorry, but this is a try to give myself some kind of pep talk. After all, there is no one else who pressures me besides Talliah with his boring „Where’s the new entry? Where’s the new entry?“-speeches. You are reading it Talliah, stop bothering me!
So what shall be the last topic of this English Smalltalk-entry, which is the first of its kind on Bagdadsoftware? We haven’t talked much about games but besides the new E3 Media & Business Summit, that ended last week, there isn’t much interesting going on and enough blogs already talked about it with more or less kind words.
Some will begin and talk about the summer hole but when I look on my preorder-list, I don’t see any change of pace in the next few months. It will of course get worse once we reach September but August still brings some good and big games with it. The „Game of the Year“-candidate BioShock is only one of them. On the list of August releases are also Enemy Territory Quake Wars, Jack Keane and Field Ops.
Speaking of Field Ops, I once saw a report about it on TV. I don’t remember if it was about „Killerspiele“ but I still find it funny, that the moderator called it Field Opies. Okay, maybe you had to be there…
And of course there is still my personal, very huge backlog I have to work up. – Did I already mention, that 24 hours in a day just aren’t enough to get all that done? – To say it before Talliah does: Yes, perhaps I am more a collector than a gamer nowadays but that doesn’t change my status as a „Hardcore Gamer“. I am still very informed, skilled and play much. Besides, being a collector is a great part of the whole fun about our hobby in my opinion. A part, which I fear will get lost in the next few decades because of the whole „digital download“-movement. I want my box with a DVD in it!
But let’s wrap this thing up now. See you next time. As always: Feel free to comment in English but be aware of the spam filter!
